Team Picker Wheel — Random Team Generator

Fairly divide any group into random teams in seconds. Add your names, spin the wheel, and let chance decide — no arguments, no favoritism, no fuss.

Prefer automatic assignments? Use the random team generator to choose 2–10 teams and assign each pick in turn, or assign all remaining names at once.

How to Generate Random Teams with the Name Wheel

The steps below use the main Name Wheel with manual team lists. Before spinning, open Options and turn on Auto-remove winners: it is off by default. Keep every entry at the same weight so each person has the same chance of being picked, and enter each participant once. Add a surname or initial when two people share a first name.

  1. Enter names — Type or paste all participant names into the wheel, one per line.
  2. Set team size — Decide how many people go on each team and write down your target. For example, twelve participants can make three teams of four.
  3. Spin — The wheel randomly picks one name at a time. With Auto-remove winners enabled, it removes each picked entry before the next spin.
  4. Assign teams — Record the first N picks as Team 1, the next N as Team 2, and so on. Here, N is your chosen team size; the main wheel does not record the teams for you.
  5. Start playing — Check that everyone appears exactly once, share the team lists, and begin your activity.

If the total does not divide evenly, agree on team sizes before drawing. With fourteen people and three teams, aim for five, five, and four. This keeps the difference to one person instead of leaving a much smaller final team. Random selection balances chances; it does not assess sporting ability, experience, or other skills.

Why Use a Random Team Generator?

Choosing sides can take longer than the game itself. A team picker wheel gives everyone a visible process with the same agreed rules. Nobody has to be chosen last by a captain, and an organizer does not have to defend every assignment. When you pick random teams, a fresh mix can help people work with classmates or colleagues they do not usually choose.

A random team generator fits sports sessions, classrooms, workshops, office games, and trivia nights. Paste the roster once and reuse it for another round. It saves preparing folded slips of paper or drawing names from a hat, and it makes a quick regrouping easy when a participant arrives late. Agree on any essential constraints before the draw.

For children, watching the wheel spin can make an ordinary classroom or PE grouping feel like part of the activity. Display it where everyone can see, announce the next team, and pause long enough to record each result. Keep the emphasis on participation and cooperation so the draw stays welcoming for every student.

Perfect for Every Team Activity

Use the wheel for relay groups in PE class, office team-building challenges, pub quizzes, practice groups at sports tryouts, and classroom group projects. Workshop facilitators can mix discussion tables, while a family game night can start with a fresh set of teams each round. Choose a team size that suits the task, explain how the draw works, and give everyone a clear place to go once the names have been picked. ← Back to Name Wheel
