How does the team generator split fairly?

Every person gets an exactly equal slice of the wheel. The generator uses cryptographic randomness to select a name, and assigns them in round-robin order. Because the pick is made before the animation starts, the result cannot be biased or predicted.

Can it handle uneven groups?

Yes. If your group size doesn't divide exactly, the extra people go to the first teams in the rotation. For example, 7 names split across 3 teams gives two teams of 2 and one team of 3 — and 11 names across 3 teams gives two teams of 4 and one team of 3. The random spin order decides who ends up in the larger groups.

Is the team picker really random?

Yes. The underlying randomizer uses the same cryptographic algorithm browsers use for secure passwords. Every name on the wheel has a mathematically identical chance of being selected on any given spin.

How do I use the random team picker wheel?

Paste your names into the entries panel (one per line via Bulk Edit, or one at a time with the + button). Set the number of teams using the input above the wheel. Hit SPIN — each spin picks one name and assigns it to the next team in rotation. Keep spinning until everyone is placed, or click "Assign the rest" to fill all remaining slots in one go.

Is there a limit to how many names I can paste?

The wheel handles up to 50,000 entries, so paste away. For a group picker wheel you plan to display on screen, anything under a few hundred works perfectly. Use the Bulk Edit tab to paste a full roster in one go — one name per line.

Does the team generator balance skill levels?

No. It balances team sizes — ensuring each group gets an equal (or as-close-as-possible) number of people. It does not have any information about players' ability, so it cannot guarantee competitive fairness. For a draft format, have captains take turns picking after the random seeding sets the pick order.

How do I pick teams randomly?

Add your group's names to the wheel, set the number of teams you want, and spin. Each spin assigns one person to a team until everyone is placed. You can also use Assign the rest to fill remaining slots in one go.

How the random team generator splits groups fairly

The random team generator takes your list of names and distributes them evenly in seconds. Add your roster, select your team count, and hit SPIN. The wheel uses cryptographic randomness to pick one name at a time, so you can assign teams randomly in a round-robin format. This ensures team sizes are mathematically balanced. You can assign players one-by-one to build suspense, or click "Assign the rest" to finish instantly. Everything runs securely in your browser.
