Where TheNameWheel is genuinely different

Both tools use crypto.getRandomValues() for cryptographically secure randomness. The practical differences are elsewhere.

Different saving models. TheNameWheel offers named browser slots without an account. Wheel of Names automatically restores the last device-local wheel and also supports local files or optional cloud saving.

Linked wheels. TheNameWheel's Linked Wheels feature chains a result into the entries for the next wheel. Wheel of Names instead supports multiple wheels on the same page. The better choice depends on the workflow.

Where your data lives

Both tools can keep wheel data on the device. Wheel of Names also offers optional account-based cloud storage; its official FAQ says local-file content stays on the device. TheNameWheel uses browser localStorage for saved slots and has no cloud sync.

One nuance about sharing. When you use the Share, Embed, or QR code features, your wheel title and entries are encoded into the link itself. Anyone who opens that link can read the entries — treat a share link as a document you are publishing, not a private transfer.

The trade-off is real: if you clear your browser data, your wheels are gone. We recommend exporting a CSV for an archival copy. Read more in our privacy policy.
